Our three core operations

Ise Chemicals is constantly working to make our lives better through research and development spanning a wide range of materials used for various products, from pharmaceuticals to LCD TVs and smart phones. Our three core business segments are iodine, natural gas, and metallic compounds. We not only manufacture products in each of these areas, we positively promote recycling activities as well. Even as we reap the benefits of the earth’s mineral resources, we always remember that the earth is what gives us life and we are therefore dedicated to helping preserve its environment. We will continue to move forward in harmony with our fellow human beings and the planet earth.

Iodine

Iodine
Around two million years ago, when the Kanto Plain was still covered with seawater, the many layers of organic compounds that had accumulated on the ocean floor were trapped underground due to the movement of the earth's crust, creating the ancient seawater known as “brine”. Ise Chemicals produces iodine and natural gas from brine found 500 to 2,000 meters below the earth’s surface. Although mouthwash is the first product that comes to mind when people hear the term “iodine”, the mineral is also used in X-ray contrast media, pesticides, liquid crystal display (LCD) polarizers and laser beams. Iodine is a focus of much attention in its prominent role as a material in many cutting-edge industries.

Metallic compounds

Metallic compounds
Over the past decade, industrial demand for metallic compounds has risen dramatically.
The market for cobalt and nickel compounds in particular has grown significantly thanks to their use as materials in such components as capacitors and lithium-ion batteries. Ise Chemicals launched its metallic compounds business in the 1970s. Today the nickel and cobalt compounds we produce undergo rigorous quality control inspections to meet the needs of our customers.

Natural gas

Natural gas
Natural gas is closely related to iodine because brine contains both of these resources. Natural gas is derived from the methane gas found below the earth’s surface, which was produced by bacterial decomposition of organic materials in geological layers accumulated over millions of years. The natural gas we produce from brine is supplied to gas companies for town and industrial uses. Natural gas generates less carbon dioxide emissions, a major cause of global warming, than other fossil fuels, such as petroleum and coal. Natural gas is gaining a great deal of attention as an environmentally friendly energy source.
